What to Bring to the Intensive Clinics held at Vineyard Oak:
Before you attend an Intensive Western Dressage Clinic you may want to visit the Western Dressage Association of America and the WDAA Pacific Northwest Affiliate websites. The associations have much to learn from, and we will be discussing both, and we will be focusing on the USEF/WDAA recognized tests.
Please look over the WDAA/USEF Western Dressage Tests that you will be learning about and riding in your clinic. Don't worry, you do not have to memorize the tests prior to the clinic. You will also receive judges copies of the tests in your booklet at the clinic. You may also want to read over the WDAA Western Dressage documents listed on that page. This will help you understand the rules what the judges are looking for in this fun and exciting competitive sport.
To gain the most out of your clinic experience, it is beneficial that your horse be well behaved and fit enough to be ridden for the duration of the ridden sections of the clinic comfortably. However, there is an all-walk test available for horse and rider combinations who wish to use it. The clinic will be held in a covered warm up arena and the open air Dressage court. There is a round pen for lunging your horse if needed. There is limited overnight stabling and day paddocks for clinic participants horses for an additional fee. (see registration form for rates and reservations)
You will need to bring the following:
For your horse:
Your saddle and any pads needed or may have fitting questions about
Your bridle with whichever bit you choose to use or may have questions about
A water bucket and any feed needed including if stabling overnight
Grooming supplies and fly spray
For yourself:
Comfortable riding clothes and riding boots (no shorts, halter tops, sneakers)
We highly recommend the use of a safety helmet while riding, but do not require it. Please ride carefully at your own risk
Riding gloves if needed
A water bottle and sunscreen
A notepad and pen to take notes
Lunch
